Slow Stretched Speech

“Slow Stretched Speech” decreases the force and acceleration of speech muscle movements and improves the timing and coordination of the respiratory, phonatory, and articulatory systems. It helps students to “hold on to” the sounds they are producing and stay “grounded” in their speech.

This is one of fifteen fluency-enhancing and stuttering modification strategies that are comprehensively addressed by Speak Freely: Essential Speech Skills for School-Age Children Who Stutter.
